Change your shower habits.

Spring may be almost here, but that doesn’t mean you can start slacking off on your winter beauty routine, not if you want to step into warmer weather with gorgeous skin! Here are a few tips to follow to keep your skin healthy and happy, from head to toe.

Change your shower habits. When it’s cold outside, it’s tempting to linger in a hot shower until you’ve emptied the hot-water tank. But that hot water sucks the moisture right out of your skin, leaving you dry and itchy, so turn down the heat and shorten your shower time. You also need to switch to a moisturizing body wash and facial cleanser in order to avoid stripping precious moisture from dry skin. Finally, exfoliate regularly on face and body to slough away dry skin.

Moisturize! It can’t be said enough: moisturizing is the key to maintaining great skin. Find a rich body lotion and invest in a face cream tailored to your skin type, and use them religiously. Hand cream is another must that we often skip, but it’s important to reapply throughout the day, especially after you wash your hands.

Protect yourself. By now you should know that you still need SPF in the winter, so stop skipping it. And make sure to wear gloves when you’re outdoors, since the cold can lead to rough hands and brittle nails.

Don’t neglect your feet. They may be hidden away in thick socks and boots for several months, but if you don’t take care of them, it’s going to be that much harder to get them sandal-ready come spring. Continue to soak, buff, and moisturize all winter, and you’ll have smooth, sexy feet when warm weather hits.

Try something new! Winter is one of the best times to try a new anti-aging facial. Why? Many anti-aging treatments contain ingredients like retinol, which can make your skin more sensitive to the sun; but during the winter, we tend to be hidden away from the sun’s rays (most of the time). Winter is also a great time to try out waxing, since any unsatisfactory results and redness will be safely hidden under long pants (whew!). When warm weather comes, you’ll be all the wiser and ready to show off your pampered self!
